PRM / A Soulful Dialogue Between Piano and Cello: "No Answer" by Ketil Bjørnstad & Sandra Lied Haga

"If the answers aren't there, we have to search for them ourselves." The second single from The Gateway presents one of the album's most reflective compositions. No Answer is a soulful and lyrical dialogue between piano and cello, where silence and the space between the notes are just as important as the melody itself.

Throughout his artistic career, Ketil Bjørnstad has sought to create music that does not provide ready-made answers, but instead opens up space for reflection. No Answer emerges from that very idea, a musical encounter where experience and curiosity are allowed to coexist.

"I've often thought that music is born in the meeting between experience and curiosity. Not as a compromise, but as an opening. A gateway."

The composition was written specifically with Sandra Lied Haga's distinctive musical voice in mind. Her warm tone, rich sound and natural musicality inspired Bjørnstad to explore the cello's full range while always keeping the melody at the heart of the music. Ketil explains:

"This piece is an unconditional tribute to Sandra and her unique ability to explore both the depths and the heights. The warmth and intensity she brings to everything she does, together with her extraordinary technique, inspire me to push the cello to the very limits of its register while preserving the warmth and melodic quality that we both seek in this collaboration. If the answers aren't there, we have to search for them ourselves."

In No Answer, Sandra Lied Haga allows the cello's deep, singing voice to meet an open, improvisatory piano language. Her beautiful double stops, in particular, lend the melody an added richness and intensity, further highlighting the intimate dialogue between the two musicians.

The Gateway is the result of a meeting between two generations and two artistic voices, with melody serving as an anchor and dialogue as the driving force. The album will be released on Simax on 28 August.
